BRUCE ECKERSON
Principal
Bruce Eckerson joined his wife Alice at Eckerson Design Associates in 2012 bringing 25 years of professional landscape architectural experience to the firm.
In 2007, the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) recognized Mr. Eckerson for design excellence with an Honor Award for the “Connecticut Country House” project in Westport, Connecticut. He has also received numerous awards for his residential design work from the Connecticut Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (CTASLA) and the American Institute of Architects/Connecticut (AIA/CT). Bruce’s projects have been featured in numerous publications including Landscape Architecture Magazine, Garden Design (cover story November 2007), Connecticut Cottages & Gardens, Hamptons Cottages and Gardens, Renovation Style and At Home magazines.
Bruce is an instructor at the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) teaching a course in Project Estimating. He has also presented lectures based on his work to the NYBG Landscape Design Students and Alumni Association (LDSA).
Bruce is a full member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and is licensed to practice in Connecticut and New York. He is certified with the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB). Bruce holds a Master’s Degree of Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia. He received his undergraduate degree from Hobart College where he was also a key member of four Division III National Championship lacrosse teams. Bruce still participates in Club Lacrosse in the Fairfield County area as well as traveling to tournaments in Vail, Ft. Lauderdale and Lake Placid.
ALICE ECKERSON
Principal
Alice Eckerson started Eckerson Design Associates in 1997. She is a licensed Landscape Architect with over 30 years of experience in high-end residential, urban and institutional design. She holds a Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Studio Art from Connecticut College.
In 2015, the Connecticut Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) recognized Alice’s project “Beech Haven” with a Merit Award for Design Excellence. She received a second place award for the design of the Rose Garden at the National Garden at the United States Botanical Garden on the Mall in Washington DC. While a graduate student Alice received the American Society of Landscape Architects Award of Honor for Excellence in the study of Landscape Architecture.
Alice was an instructor at the New York Botanical Garden for 20 years, teaching in the Landscape Design Certificate Program and the School of Professional Horticulture. She taught Site Analysis and Schematic Design, Design and Construction, and Grading. Alice is a long time resident of Fairfield, CT. She has been married to Bruce for over 30 years and they have two grown children. Alice volunteers her time at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church working in the gardens and as a member of the altar guild.
MICHAEL J. MITCHELL
Associate
Michael is an award-winning Landscape Architect who has led projects and worked with teams of architects, engineers and other allied design professionals in California, Hawaii, Colorado, Pennsylvania, New York and Connecticut. His experience ranges from new construction to extensive remodels of existing Residential, Commercial, Institutional and Governmental projects. He understands the “big picture” and the importance of integrating other design professional’s expertise for meticulously executed projects. His passion involves solving complex design and construction problems.
Michael rejoined Eckerson Design Associates in 2018 after a 5-year hiatus in San Francisco. He is a licensed Landscape Architect with over 13 years of experience.
Michael is a full member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and is licensed to practice in Connecticut and is certified with the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB). He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Landscape Architecture from Purdue University.
PATRICK PURCELL
Landscape Designer
Patrick joined Eckerson Design Associates as a Landscape Designer in 2017; and has a passion for working with clients to design outdoor spaces that are functional, beautiful, and emphasize the natural beauty of their properties.
Patrick graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2014 with a bachelor’s of science in Landscape Architecture. Prior to joining EDA Patrick worked with a high end residential design-build company in Fairfield County; building his knowledge of residential design, planting, and construction.
